Origin and history
Aari embroidery work is a design of embellishment that has its pioneer origins in the Vedic period. Kalabattu is the name of its real method, in which yarns in real gold and silver colours of wires were worked to decorate silk, velvet and satin fabrics. Separate from it, different embellishing accessories, such as sequins, beads, pearls and precious and semi-precious marbles were also done. When it was at its peak of compliance, it was principally used by the Mughals and their royal families on wall hangings.
